A Vern Morcom design opened in 1965, built by the man who served one of the great apprenticeships in Australian golf.

Vern Morcom served one of the greatest apprenticeships in Australian golf, learning turfgrass from his father Mick Morcom, the Royal Melbourne superintendent, and design and shaping skills from Alister Mackenzie. Vern formed an important partnership with his father, the pair entrusted to build all of Mackenzie's work around Melbourne.

Vern would ultimately become the superintendent at Kingston Heath, a position he held for 46 years, but he also forged a career in design, firstly with his dad and later on his own. Morcom designed over 50 courses around the country, but his best work was generally around Melbourne and close to his base at Kingston Heath. The club's origins date back to 1898, but the course we know today opened in 1965.
