Major Redesigns 2010

A course often compared to Augusta, redesigned by us into the national top 20, with ongoing work including a full re-grassing from bentgrass to couch.

Australians have often compared Royal Canberra to Augusta National. In keeping with Augusta, Royal Canberra was lush, tree-lined and undulating, and the ruse was helped by it feeling more like an American golf course than an Australian one. However, that is where the similarities ended. In contrast to Augusta, Royal Canberra was fairly narrow, with holes bordered by rough, and the green complexes and bunkering failed to create the strategic decisions that are such a hallmark of its Georgian comparison.

In 2010 we were awarded the task of redesigning the course, and after a two-year rebuild it rose in the rankings to #20 in the country. Since 2019 we have been advising the club on all architectural matters, and in 2024 we helped complete stage three of the course redevelopment, which included the re-grassing of the entire golf course, converting from bentgrass to couch. As part of the works all bunkers were rebuilt, vegetation was removed, short grass linkages were expanded, and a number of new tees were built.
