Major Redesigns 2019–2021

A public sandbelt course redeveloped with Royal Melbourne, Golf Australia and the Victorian Government, giving the public a real taste of sandbelt golf.

While never part of the original Royal Melbourne layout, some parts of this property in the heart of the sandbelt are similar to its more famous neighbour, and so it always enjoyed a reputation as one of the better public golf courses in Melbourne. Originally built as a 9-hole course, it was expanded to 18 in the 1950s by long-time Kingston Heath curator Vern Morcom.

In 2019 we commenced a redevelopment of the course in partnership with Royal Melbourne, Golf Australia and the Victorian Government. To accommodate a training facility, driving range and the administrative home of golf in Australia, alterations to the course were made. While a shorter course, we took inspiration from its more famous neighbours and built a set of greens and bunkers that we hope challenge a range of golfers and give the public a taste of what sandbelt golf is all about. Working closely with Royal Melbourne course superintendent Richard Forsyth, we were also able to use the same Sutton's mix bentgrass on the greens and the fescue surrounds that Royal Melbourne converted to 15 years ago.
