New Courses 2021–2024
Our first US design: three distinct courses on a 200-mile band of sandy, well-drained land between Columbus and Augusta, evoking the Sandbelt, the London heathlands and Pine Valley.
Six million years ago, the ocean shore stretched from Columbus to Augusta, Georgia. As the seas receded, they left behind a 200-mile band of undulating, well-drained sandy deposit, home to a marvellous array of longleaf pines, native plants and grasses. The perfect land for golf. Walking the site for the first time in July 2021, it felt like a cross between the Melbourne Sandbelt, the London heathlands and Pine Valley. This spectacular land is now home to The Fall Line, our first US design, and it features three distinct courses.
The East Course, inspired by London's classic heathland courses such as Sunningdale, Swinley Forest and St George's Hill, measures 6,600 yards to a par of 70 and opened for member play in October 2023.
The West Course gave us a chance to pay homage to our home, the Australian Sandbelt, and the legendary work of Alister Mackenzie, Alex Russell and the Morcoms. Those familiar with the Sandbelt will recognise elements of Royal Melbourne, Victoria, Peninsula Kingswood and Kingston Heath, including putting surfaces that extend right to the edge of the bunkers, a first for the US. The West measures 7,450 yards to a par of 72 and opened in October 2024.
The last course to be built, the short course, takes on the aesthetic of an abandoned sand mine. Opening in 2025, it draws inspiration from the numerous nearby quarries. Moving 400,000 cubic yards of dirt, we transformed a flat piece of ground into spectacular short holes that play over and around dramatic mounds and severe drop-offs.
