One of the regional courses that form the backbone of Australian golf, laid out by 1905 Australian Open champion Dan Souter on the banks of Lake Albert.
Away from the high-profile courses of the major cities are our regional courses, and these, in many ways, provide a backbone for golf in this country. Take a quick glance through the profiles of many of our best golfers of the last 50 years in Australia and you will notice a large percentage started out as kids in regional centres: Karrie Webb, Peter O'Malley, Marcus Fraser, Marc Leishman and, of course, Wagga Wagga's own Steve Elkington.
The course was first laid out by the well-known professional Dan Souter, the 1905 Australian Open champion, who would also be known for designing the course at Kingston Heath a few years prior. Laid out on the banks of Lake Albert and featuring beautiful stands of established river red gums, Wagga Wagga makes for a very pleasant place to play and, like so many clubs post-COVID, is thriving on a renewed interest in the game.
